I’ll be honest – when a client first suggested Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, my immediate reaction was something like, “Wait, how have I never heard of this place?” One visit and I completely understood why they brought it up. It was, without exaggeration, love at first sight. If you’re looking for a MetroWest location that genuinely does it all – variety, gorgeous light, wide open fields, and that classic New England charm – keep reading, because this one is worth knowing about.

Finding a location that works for families, seniors, AND newborns is rarer than you’d think. Most spots are great for one thing and awkward for everything else. Chestnut Hill Farm is the exception.
A client suggested it to me, and from the moment I walked toward the parking lot, I could already see the potential. Fences. A rock wall. Open fields bathed in golden light. A red barn sitting just far enough away to add that quintessential New England backdrop without being in the way. I remember thinking: this is a lot of session in one place.
That first visit confirmed everything. And now it’s one of my most-used and most-loved spots across all kinds of sessions.

Let me walk you through what’s actually there, because the variety is genuinely impressive.
Within steps of where you park, there are several fences and a beautiful rock wall that catches backlit sun beautifully early in the session. I often start here to ease everyone in while the light is doing something magical.
For seniors, I’ll frequently move them over to the ivy field rock wall just a few steps away. It photographs beautifully and gives that timeless, editorial feel without trying too hard.
The sun-drenched open fields are the big reason I keep coming back. The light that pours through during golden hour is the kind of thing you can’t manufacture in a studio.
The tall grasses add texture and movement to photos without being so overgrown that we lose the little ones in the frame. (Trust me, I am always thinking about the toddlers. Always.)
This is, arguably, my favorite part of the whole location. If we time it right in the summer, there are blooming wildflowers across the street that offer a completely different feel from the grasses. It’s a natural change of scenery mid-session that makes the gallery feel full and varied – without ever having to load back into the car. Oh that and the rolling hill!!
You can’t get right up to it since it’s on a neighbor’s property, but that barn shows up in so many of my images as the perfect background detail. It adds that traditional New England vibe that clients love. Keep reading to see who may visit!!

Not everyone is a golden hour person, and that’s completely fine. If evenings don’t work for your schedule, Chestnut Hill Farm is also a beautiful spot for a sunrise session.
If we can meet within an hour after sunrise, the light is soft, the location is peaceful, and the energy is genuinely lovely. This works really well for early bird families or seniors who want a session that wraps up before the day gets going.
So if our schedules haven’t been lining up in the evenings, this might be your answer.

A lot goes into making a session feel natural and fun – and location is a bigger piece of that than most people realize. When a spot has built-in variety, we can move through the session with energy and keep things from feeling repetitive or forced.
Chestnut Hill Farm gives us that. Rock walls for a more structured senior look. Wide open fields for running, laughing, and chasing toddlers. Wildflowers for something a little dreamy. A barn for that New England feel. It all lives in one place, which means more of your session time is spent actually creating photos – and less time driving around hoping the next spot works out.
For families especially, that flow matters. Kids do better when we keep moving, and having built-in variety at one location makes that so much easier.

Yes, one time the farmer’s cow came right over to say hello. That’s the kind of moment you can’t plan – and absolutely cannot beat.

If you’re in the MetroWest area and looking for a location that’s going to give your session real variety, beautiful light, and that genuine New England feel – Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough is a true winner.
