As a Massachusetts Family Photographer, I’ve learned that the best family photos aren’t about picture-perfect poses or flawless smiles—they’re about capturing genuine moments that tell your family’s unique story. Whether it’s the way your toddler clings to their favorite stuffed animal or the spontaneous laughter that erupts during a game of tag, those are the memories that truly matter. Keep reading to discover the hidden truths behind every successful family photo session and why embracing imperfection leads to the most heartwarming images.
If you’re waiting for your kiddos to sit quietly like perfect angels you’ll be waiting forever, and you have probably chosen the wrong photographer. But the best photos? They’re the ones where life is actually being lived.
Sitting and smiling at the camera – been there, done that. Everyone has that image. You can do that as a family selfie. But that one shot that tugs at your heart strings. The one that you remember in ten years when your kids are stinky, sweaty teenagers? Let’s capture that as part of a family photo session.
For me, I have this one image that forever plays in my mind when I think of this. At my oldest 1st birthday session, he was simply NOT having it. So we took him into the house, gave him his favorite stuffie, a Mickey Mouse, and he sucked on his ear. I don’t remember a single other image from this session. THAT is the one that I remember. But it certainly isn’t the one I thought I would remember…
Taking photos is only a very small part of my job as a family photographer in Massachusetts. Connecting with my clients before, during and after the session is what I believe sets me apart. Leading with empathy & an understanding of what it’s like to be in front of the camera – I get it, it is an intimate experience a client has with a photographer. Once we are at the session, I bring the joy – let’s have fun and leave all the expectations at the car door. We have built that relationship & I hope everyone is comfortable! It’s more than just a photo, working with me should be a fun experience!
I truly can’t tell you the number of times I deliver a gallery and clients respond with “When did you get that photo?” In the chaos of a family session, there is always the beauty.
Maybe we show up at a Massachusetts field, off the side of the road, or the top of a parking garage and the client is wondering what I was thinking – and then the gallery is delivered and I get the “wow, you really are a genius” text. Just trust me that between finding THE moments for your family and THE locations for the light and scene, I will deliver the best experience and photos for your family.
I don’t think I can say much more about this one, but if you have had a session with me, you know. Hands are the bane of a client’s existence. Clients know I have two rules during family sessions and one is specifically to address HANDS! ABT: Always Be Touching!
And for my seniors, we work on hand placement constantly – moving, pockets, hair, you name it, I have your hands in it or ON it!!
This one is tricky. Most dads if I tell them to simply “love on your kiddo” they stare at me like I have asked them to run around naked. But if I give them a specific task, like toss your kiddo in the air or whisper something ridiculous into your daughter’s ear, BAM, magic! That’s when the good stuff happens. Dad prep MUST happen – I swear they all have PTSD from school portraits when they were kiddos!
As a Massachusetts Family Photographer, I believe the most treasured images are the ones that reveal your true selves. To me, family photo sessions are more than just snapping pictures—they’re about capturing the essence of your family’s love, laughter, and connection.
If you’re ready to embrace the beauty of real-life moments and create memories that will warm your heart for years to come, reach out today and let’s plan your unforgettable photo session!
