Your senior year deserves more than a simple photo. It deserves an experience that feels like you, one that captures your personality. As a Metrowest Senior Photographer, I understand that this is a moment in your life before everything changes.
Ever wonder what it actually takes to turn a nervous high school senior into someone who looks totally confident in photos?
Because let’s be real. Senior sessions can feel like a lot. Most seniors do not walk into a session thinking, “Yes, please put a camera in my face for two hours.” They are thinking, What do I do with my hands? Am I going to look awkward? What if I don’t photograph well?
That’s where I come in.
As a Metrowest Senior Photographer serving Hopkinton and Holliston and beyond, my job is not just to take a nice portrait. It is to create a space where seniors feel comfortable enough to be themselves and where their personality has room to show up.
Emilia’s session was the perfect example of that.

One of the most common things I hear is, “I’m not photogenic,” or “I’m going to be so awkward.”
And honestly, that is totally normal. The secret is simple. I do not force anything. I start where you are.
That means easing in with approachable prompts & simple direction. Nothing stiff or overly posed. I am paying attention to what feels natural for you, what makes you laugh, and what helps you feel confident. We are chatting like two old buddies. The goal is never to make you look like someone you are not. It is to help you look like the best version of you.
And here is something that works every single time. Showing a few photos during the session. Allowing you to see you as I see you behind the lens.

During Emilia’s session, we scrolled through a handful of images once we got to our second location, and it was like a light switch flipped. The second she saw what I was seeing, her confidence went up. Suddenly she was open to trying new angles, movement, and more creative shots.
If you want that confidence-building transformation to happen without rushing, this is exactly why my Signature Package is my most popular option. It includes multiple hours and outfit changes, which gives seniors time to warm up, settle in, and truly get comfortable in front of the camera. The longer we shoot, the more natural everything feels. That is when the best expressions and the most “them” moments show up.

Preparation changes everything. Whether you plan outfits on your own or want my help (my favorite part of senior session prep!), taking time with your wardrobe makes a big difference.
Think outfit choices that feel like you, clothes that fit well, and yes, ironing and planning ahead instead of grabbing old faithfuls out of your drawer an hour before the session. When you feel good in what you are wearing, it shows in every photo.
The beginning of the session is the warm up. We start with easy poses so you can get comfortable, find your rhythm, and stop overthinking. I have my list of “must have” photos, but that changes!
This is when we chat, laugh, and you realize, “Oh wait. This is actually fun.”
A location is more than a backdrop. It is part of the story. Sometimes the most unexpected places create the most interesting images.
That is why sessions like Emilia’s at an abandoned state hospital can be so powerful. It is not traditionally pretty, but it is full of texture, mood, and creative opportunity. It is the kind of setting that makes your photos feel bold, different, and totally personal.

Senior sessions are not just about getting a good image for the yearbook. They are about capturing who you are right now, in this in-between moment of becoming. My hope is always that you leave your session feeling proud, confident, and genuinely excited.
Memories is what we are really creating together.
