“My Kids won’t behave for a session for family photos in Boston!”

I don’t want your kids to behave.  I want your kids to be themselves, to see their personalities.  Their smirks. Their gap tooth. The hairy eye ball they like to give their sibling. Gone are the days of asking them to sit still smile at the camera and say cheese. Did you know people never used to smile in photos? No, me either, but read why here! I digress.

Let them run, explore, be silly, say funny words… because all of that will produce genuine smiles. And that’s how you want to remember them at this age. Let them play!

“But what will we wear?”

Styling is always a concern — what will we wear?  these decisions are hard daily never mind in images that we are going to hang up in our houses!  Don’t worry, I GOT YOU!  I can help with styling as much or as little as you want!  Some families I style from head to toe.  I love scouring for the perfect outfits to match your family vibe.  I have a blog of tips on what NOT to wear!

But here let me offer one tip.  Neutrals: make sure you include them in your outfits when planning for family photos. I love color and want your family in some colors, but too much color brings the attention away from YOU!  You want to have lots of neutrals to go along with the bolder colors.  

“There are no good family photo locations near my house in Boston”  

Mamas, this is simply NOT the case.  I look at a field and see the light, see the beauty.  It only takes one small patch.  I have been a photographer for over 9 years and have a vast list of location ideas that I share with my clients who book.  There are beautiful spots all over the place and we can find the one that is right for you, I promise.  I am forever location scouting and updating spots.  Can’t wait to share some new ones in 2024.

“But we don’t look like the photos you are posting on IG!”  

Truth — every family you see posted on IG has thought or said the same thing.  Trust me.  These are not models.  They are the families I met at the baseball field, in the grocery store, through Instagram and mainly through other client referrals.   They have the same fears and the same worries. The one thing I tell my clients in all my communications and at the beginning of sessions?  Look at your kids like everything they do is the cutest thing ever, even (and especially) when it’s not! When they’re happy & carefree, you’ll get the best photos. Embrace the chaos, be present in the moment with your family. This is the secret.
