Choosing the right location | Boston Family Photography
One of the questions I am asked the most — “Can you suggest a location” and the simple answer is YES, many!! As your Boston Family Photographer, I’m a storyteller, and the location plays a really big part of the story. Being a photographer around Boston, I have been all over taking photos and have learned what works for my families and what may not!
When clients book with me, I am not able to offer a link to some of my favorite local spots, and offer suggestions based on time of year, current conditions, and location. I have my favorites, but also love hearing your ideas.

Light. Light. Light.
Truly this is the most important part of my job and why our sessions are always scheduled at golden hour. Light creates magic, it creates mood. Where the sun rises and sets impacts any location. Part of my job is to scout these locations, find where the light will be and work with it. I love to use light in fun and creative ways to bring a golden glow to your images! If it isn’t sunny on your session day, my location recommendation may change a little but that flat, even light provides the most flattering of images!
Your Family’s Personality
Are you a family living the city life? Or do you own a farm & adore the rural life? Maybe you have a favorite memory at a local park or recently moved and want to celebrate your new community. Let’s celebrate who you are as a family. Every family story is different.
Your family structure
This is where getting to know my clients a little before the session really helps. If you have teenagers I may suggest a location that is more of a walk with spectacular views. But if you have 3 under 3, we will make use of a location with a lot of open space and little risk. Maybe your family really is drawn to water and then we can head to the beach!
Convenience
We all live busy lives and some times making a family photo session a priority is not easy — and an hour drive on top of that just isn’t feasible for your family. We will find a location that is convenient and easy for you to get to.
The Saturation Factor
Some locations are just that — saturated with other photographers, other families. If you choose a location beach for a summer session, I am going to suggest we do it during the week. If you want beautiful fall foliage, I may suggest a smaller, less known location on a weekend. Let’s have some fun together!
